Alan Sorum is a resident of the Municipality of Skagway, an area rich in the history of the Klondike Gold Rush. Sorum is the immediate past Port Director and Harbormaster of Valdez, Alaska where he worked and played in Prince William Sound for the past eight years. Alan previously lived on Wrangell Island for many years.

Sorum is an alumnus of the University of Alaska Southeast and Fairbanks with advanced degrees in public management and rural development. Currently he is an adjunct facility member with the University of Alaska Southeast. Alan writes professionally for Alaska Sea Grant, Pacific Fishing and Suite101. He has made a number of professional presentations in rural development and marine safety.

Alaska is a truly Great Land and its diverse regions would easily form a number separate state or provinces. Alan travels extensively throughout the State for business and pleasure, and shares his knowledge of the land here at IAA.
